MECOSTA COUNTY, MI – A 70-year-old man was hospitalized after a collision with a semi, Mecosta County sheriff’s deputies said.

The crash happened around 5:38 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9, in Austin Township.

Police say a 70-year-old Mecosta man was traveling eastbound on Pierce Road when he drove left of the center line. The man then crashed into a semi traveling westbound on Pierce Road.

After the side-swipe collision, the Mecosta man struck a second vehicle also traveling westbound behind the semi.

Sheriff’s deputies at the scene said it was evident the Mecosta man was suffering from a medical emergency, which police believe was a contributing factor in the crash.

The man was taken by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment.

No other injuries were reported.
