WYOMING, MI — University of Michigan Health-West has installed a vending machine-style dispenser containing free doses of naloxone, a medication used to treat opioid overdoses, at its community clinic at 781 36th St. SE in Wyoming.
The dispenser was provided by a statewide initiative aimed at reducing preventable opioid overdose deaths, according to a release. The dispenser is located inside the clinic’s “shared waiting area, which also serves patients of the adjacent Catherine’s Health Center Dental Clinic,” the release said.
Margo Schlewitz, manager of the UM Health-West Community Health Center, said the purpose of the naloxone dispenser is to provide the community with access to “the tools they need to save a life.”
“Naloxone is simple to use and proven to reverse opioid overdoses,”
