Federal judge rules in favor of Alaska nonprofit over cancelled grant

A U.S. senior judge ruled in favor of an Alaska nonprofit that sued the U.S. Office of Naval Research (ONR) over the cancellation of a $5 million grant.

Launch Alaska sued the U.S. Navy in July, claiming that the grant was arbitrarily terminated without any explanation. The nonprofit is a major accelerator program supporting significant projects and helping startup companies get off the ground.

Launch Alaska’s lawsuit sought to restore the grant, with the company stating that its cancellation could result in massive layoffs, canceled contracts, and the termination of its tech startup accelerator program.

U.S. Alaska District Senior Judge G. Murray Snow granted Launch Alaska’s request for a preliminary injunction, ruling that the Naval Research Office failed to provide the required expla
