Firefighters knocked down a rubbish fire at a structure in Tarzana that had a tunnel passage in a pre-existing basement, authorities said Sunday.

Firefighters dispatched at 10:07 p.m. Saturday to the 5600 block of North Reseda Boulevard had the fire out within 43 minutes of their arrival, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Specialized Urban Search and Rescue companies, along with a Hazardous Materials unit, were used in determining how to access, confine and extinguish the smoldering rubbish fire due to the tunnel passage, said Mark McClean of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire was under investigation.
