Pretrial motions are slated to get underway Wednesday ahead of jury selection for the trial of a Jurupa Valley man accused of severely beating his girlfriend with a tire iron, then snatching their 1-year-old son and fleeing to another location.

Armando Julio Alvarez Ramirez, 45, is charged with attempted murder, domestic abuse, assault with a deadly weapon, child cruelty, making criminal threats and sentence-enhancing allegations of using a weapon during a felony and inflicting great bodily injury.

On Tuesday, Ramirez’s case was assigned to the courtroom of Riverside County Superior Court Judge Timothy Hollenhorst at the Riverside Hall of Justice. The judge set pretrial motions for Wednesday, and they were expected to take up the rest of the week.
