Missing man found dead after his overturned canoe discovered

A Westbrook man was found dead on Saturday after being missing since Aug. 1 .

The body of 38-year-old Andrew Corbett, of Westbrook, was found in Messerschmidt’s Pond, according to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection .

According to the DEEP, Corbett was last seen on the night of July 30 after his vehicle was found parked near Messerschmidt Pond and his canoe was found overturned in the water on Aug. 1.

Environmental Conservation Police responded to the scene and found a vehicle as well as the man’s personal belongings nearby. Authorities were able to contact the man’s family, who reported last having contact with him the previous, according to DEEP.

While the pond is off a busy road in Westbrook, it is large and the water is dark and often covered with plants
