A National Trust mill set in an “idyllic village location” in Cambridgeshire has a cute tearoom and beautiful meadows to visit. Houghton Mill and Waterclose Meadows is in Mill Street, Houghton , near Huntingdon .
The mill has been around for over 1,000 years. No one knows its exacts origins, but early documents show that by AD 974, the manor of Houghton, including a mill, was given to Ramsey Abbey.
As years went on, it saw many changes. During the 1850s, it reached the height of its prosperity under the management of the Brown and Goodman families. At the time, the mill was producing a tonne of flour per hour, and this was sold as far as London and Leicester.
