Denton police said the investigation into a deadly shooting on the downtown square that claimed the life of a homeless man is ongoing.

Around 12:10 p.m. Saturday, Denton police said it received multiple 911 calls about a shooting in the 200 block of W. Hickory Street.

Police said the preliminary investigation showed that a disturbance had happened between a man and an individual experiencing homelessness prior to the shooting.

“There was a disturbance between those two individuals prior to the shooting, what exactly that disturbance looked like is still under investigation,” said Denton Police Department’s Public Information Liaison Amy Cunningham.
