SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — A man drowned near the Siloam Springs Kayak Park on Saturday, Aug. 9, authorities confirmed.

According to Siloam Springs Police Chief Scott Miller, officers and firefighters were dispatched to the park at about 4:57 p.m. for reports of an unresponsive man in the river. CPR was being administered when first responders arrived.

Because the incident occurred in the Illinois River, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office (BSCO) has taken over the investigation. No further details have been released.

KNWA/FOX24 has reached out to BSCO for more information and has not yet heard back as of 3 p.m., Aug. 10.
