BUMPASS, Va. (WWBT)—Authorities with the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office are investigating after a woman jumped into a body of water and went missing after resurfacing.

On Saturday, August 9, 2025, at approximately 10:45 p.m., the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) was notified of a drowning in the area of Sandy Point Drive in Bumpass, Virginia.

Witnesses on the scene say Sally Bedell, a 19-year-old woman from Arlington, Virginia, jumped from a structure into the water and went missing after resurfacing.

Authorities arrived at the scene with the Spotsylvania County Dive Team to help in search efforts. Shortly after, Ms. Bedell was found unresponsive in the water. Despite immediate life-saving efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
