CHICAGO — Guardians No. 1 overall prospect Travis Bazzana is on the move.
Bazzana, selected by Cleveland with the top pick in the 2024 MLB draft, has been promoted from Double-A Akron to Triple-A Columbus following the Rubberducks’ game Sunday against Chesapeake.
Bazzana was hitting .256 with five home runs and 23 RBI in 51 games for Akron at the time of his promotion.
Joining Bazzana in moving from Akron to Columbus are pitchers Tommy Mace and Ross Carver as well as catcher Cooper Ingle.
After missing six weeks with an abdominal strain suffered in mid-May, Bazzana returned July 18 and has hit .265 with a .779 OPS and 14 runs scored in 18 games. Ranked as Cleveland’s No. 1 prospect and No. 12 overall by MLB Pipeline, Bazzana is the club’s first-ever No. 1 overall draft pick.
