OXON HILL, Md. — Maryland’s annual Tax-Free Week begins Sunday, Aug. 10, and runs through Saturday, Aug. 16, giving shoppers a break on certain items just in time for the back-to-school season.

The week waives the state’s 6% sales tax on clothing and footwear priced under $100, plus the first $40 of any backpack. Online purchases qualify if they’re ordered and paid for during the week and ship immediately.

This year’s tax holiday comes as more families start their back-to-school shopping earlier to avoid higher prices.
