ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — A flash flood warning was issued for Pinellas County Sunday night.

As of 10 p.m., Pinellas County beaches and the surrounding area were pummeled by rain as a rare flash flood warning was put into effect.

Some areas saw over 7.5 inches of rain in a timespan of one to two hours.

WFLA Meteorologist Eric Stone stated that the reason for the onslaught of rain was due to storms 'training,' meaning that they form in one location, move through the area, then reform in another location before moving into that same area.

The rain is expected to continue until 11 p.m.
