Tropical Storm Erin formed in the Atlantic Ocean Monday morning, and the system is expected to strengthen over the next several days, a forecaster with the National Hurricane Center in Miami.

Erin formed just west of the Cabo Verde Islands had maximum winds of 45 mph at 9:45 a.m. Monday and is moving west at 20 mph., said NHC forecaster Philippe Papin .

Gradual strengthening is forecast over the next several days, Papin said. Erin could eventually become the first hurricane of the 2025 Atlantic season, though Papin explained the timing of the intensity is uncertain and depends on other environmental factors.

Erin currently poses no threat to land and will continue moving west over the next several days.
