Today in History revisits the Saturday, August 11, 1923 morning edition of the Grand Forks Herald and highlights a story on the death of U.S. President Harding.
Following the death of President Warren G. Harding, people across North Dakota joined the nation in mourning. In Greater Grand Forks, as in many other cities, business operations nearly ceased during the hour of Harding’s funeral, held on Friday, August 10 at 3 p.m. in Marion, Ohio. Church bells tolled, and citizens gathered at two churches in Grand Forks, as well as at Wesley College, for memorial services. Students from the college’s summer school for ministers and numerous townspeople attended.
