Alanna Singleton, a 54-year-old real estate agent living in Central, knew what it was like to call 911 after multiple arguments with her boyfriend, Paul Varnado.
In June, violence led to an arrest. Varnado, unable to find his keys, pushed Singleton down a flight of stairs, leaving her bleeding and bruised.
The next day, Varnado, already convicted of domestic abuse in a previous marriage, was booked into jail. He quickly posted a $5,000 bond, agreeing not to communicate with Singleton or come within 100 yards of her.
Singleton then wrote a two-page letter to East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore, asking him to lift a restraining order against Varnado. “I’m afraid of him losing his job,” she wrote. “I know Paul was not the only one at fault in this matter.”
