BOONVILLE — The son of missing Boonville woman Donna Hatfield filed suit against the city's police department in federal court, alleging among other things that officials upended his life by aggressively targeting him as a suspect in his mother's disappearance.

The suit, first filed in state court in July on behalf of Hatfield's son, Thomas Rainey Jr., and removed on Thursday to U.S. District Court, centers on Rainey's 2023 arrest on charges of fraud and forgery — a since-dismissed case Rainey alleges was part of an unlawful campaign to pressure him into confessing involvement in Hatfield's disappearan
