President Lazarus Chakwera has expressed surprise that past administrations never considered building a hospital in Nthalire, Chitipa District, despite the community’s long-standing need for one.

Chakwera made the remarks on Monday when he officially upgraded Nthalire Health Centre to a Community Hospital.

“I am surprised that leaders who have ruled this country before never thought of building a hospital here,” said Chakwera, noting that the area has suffered neglect in development projects for years.

He added that apart from health services, Nthalire has also been left behind in infrastructure, pointing out that since the first president, Kamuzu Banda, constructed a road in the area, no high-standard road has been built again.
