Another day of punishing heat and humidity is hitting Montreal.

A heat warning from Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is in effect for the city today — with temperatures expected to feel like 40°C.

This comes after Sunday’s extreme heat set new records in several regions of Quebec. In Montreal, the mercury climbed to 34.4°C, beating the previous record of 32.8°C set back in 1944.

“Maximum temperatures between 30°C and 34°C combined with high humidity will generate humidex values near 40°C,” said ECCC. “Nights will also be warm, with overnight lows of 20°C or more providing little relief.”

This will go on until Tuesday, they explained.

“Conditions will begin to improve during the day on Wednesday,” they added.
