PARMA, Ohio -- The Parma Animal Shelter the last weekend of July held a successful softball tournament fundraiser at Nike Park.

“‘Play for the PAWS’ is a super-draft softball tournament that evolved from a fundraiser in my driveway to a 16-team softball tournament,” Parma Animal Shelter fundraising committee member Kimmie DiBenedetto said.

“It’s a day for everyone to come together and raise money via softball for the Parma Animal Shelter.”

In addition to more than 60 raffle baskets and 50 gift cards to raffle off, there was live music from Charles Geil and his Ghost Band, as well as Cleveland Browns mascot Chomps and MLB alum Clint Nageotte throwing out the first pitch.

The event raised more than $23,000 for the nonprofit shelter.

Proceeds will benefit the Parma Animal Shelter.
