MAPLE HEIGHTS, Ohio (WOIO) - A man died Sunday morning after he was shot Saturday as he loaded groceries into his car at a local Giant Eagle.

According to a release from the Maple Heights Police Department (MHPD), 28-year-old Timothy Kappenhagen died just before 7 a.m. from his injuries.

The Giant Eagle is located at 5321 Warrensville Center Road in Maple Heights.

According to the MHPD, officers were called to the Giant Eagle around 1:40 p.m. on Saturday after Kappenhagen had been shot.

Police said Kappenhagen was loading groceries into his vehicle when the suspect approached him. The suspect and Kappenhagen struggled, and the suspect then appeared to shoot the victim.

According to a release, the suspect then took the Kappenhagen’s vehicle and ran from the scene.
