Plymouth Argyle teenage defender Jack Matthews began a loan spell at Bath City as an unused substitute in their 1-1 season-opening draw away to Worthing in National League South on Saturday.

It was announced the previous day that the Pilgrims' 19-year-old academy graduate had joined Bath, whose manager is former Argyle under-18s head coach Darren Way, until January. Matthews spent time last season, which was his first as a professional, with Tavistock and Taunton Town.

Now he will have the chance of playing in National League South for Bath, whose starting line-up against Worthing included two other Argyle youth products, defender Ollie Tomlinson and midfielder Will Jenkins Davies.
