JENNINGS COUNTY, Ind. – Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) maintenance crews plan to begin chip seal operations on State Road 3, between Vernon and Paris Crossing, in Jennings County on or after Thursday, August 14.
Crews will be active on S.R. 3 between State Road 250 in Paris Crossing and State Road 7 in Vernon. Motorists should expect lane closures and flagging operations while work is in progress. Chip seal work lasts three to four days per location.
During operations, existing pavement is coated with liquid asphalt, which seals cracks and provides waterproof protection. This extends the service life of the roadway and lowers maintenance costs. Then, loose aggregate is applied. After a curing period, crews will return to fog seal the new driving surface and apply pavement
