After another listless loss on Sunday, the New York Yankees are less than a game ahead of the Cleveland Guardians for the final playoff spot in the American League. And if they end up missing the postseason, manager Aaron Boone will face some significant questions about his job.
After opening the year as one of the sport's best teams, the Yankees have endured a brutal slip in the standings replete with defensive errors and baserunning miscues. Through it all, Boone has maintained a surprisingly positive outlook in public, though some fans are calling for his removal.
"If the Yankees can't turn it around, Boone — whose approval rating among fans is at a low — could end up taking the fall," Ethan Sears wrote for the New York Post .
