GREENE COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Greene County Sheriff Wesley Holt will not seek re-election but plans to run for a county commission seat in May 2026.
On Monday, Holt stated in a letter that his last day as sheriff will be Aug. 31, 2026 when his term expires.
In the letter, Holt thanked the citizens of Greene County for their support since his election as sheriff in 2018 and re-election in 2022.
"When I first took the oath of deputy sheriff in 1989, I vowed to uphold the law with fairness, compassion and integrity," Holt wrote. "I continued that promise during these last 7 years as the Sheriff."
Holt also commended the community for its resilience in the face of natural disasters and turmoil.
"The time has come for me to step aside from the role of sheriff that has meant so much to me,"
