Noted researcher and clinician John C. Byrd has been named UPMC Hillman Cancer Center director, replacing Robert L. Ferris, who left UPMC last year.

Dr. Byrd comes to Hillman from the University of Cincinnati, where he has chaired the Department of Internal Medicine since 2021. Previously, he was at the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center — James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute, where he served as senior advisor for cancer experimental therapeutics and distinguished university professor.
