The defendant in a double homicide took the stand Friday morning and claimed that he had no involvement in the crime. His defense attorney told the jury in his opening statement that the defendant was forced to shoot a woman at gunpoint.

Kapri Raymond Willis, 22, faces two counts of felony first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of 18-year-old Rachel Wright and 28-year-old Ricardo Duperior on Aug. 7, 2022. He also faces two charges of felony tampering with a witness from July 2025.

After the state rested Friday morning, Willis’ defense attorney Matthew Tallerico told Superior Court Judge Patricia Haines that the defense wouldn’t be presenting any witnesses, but Willis told the court, “I think I want to testify and tell my side.”
