Hundreds of kids and families explored the new playground at Pioneer Park Friday afternoon.
Kids dashed through colorful streamers at one entrance of the playground during a ceremony Friday and munched on cupcakes and cookies.
Lee Williams, manager of Pioneer Park, told the crowd, “This space isn’t just about swings and slides, it’s about community. It’s about creating a safe, vibrant place where children can explore, imagine and grow.”
Fairbanks North Star Borough Mayor Grier Hopkins said that this playground is exactly what the community needs to keep kids active and bring generations of families together.
The approximately $2 million project was funded through the federal American Rescue Plan Act and built by Trost Construction.
