SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - In the past five years, the number of women working in the trade industry has increased by almost 1/3. That includes welding, electrical work, construction, and many other trades.

WTOC sat down with three local women who are pushing for more women to learn different trades.

While the construction industry employs roughly 1.34 million women, they still only represent 11.2% of the blue-collar workforce, according to the United States Department of Commerce.

“I’m ready for the women to kind of get their power and take charge, take over,” said Safety Professional at Industrial Technical Services, Gurtruenell Spears.

Spears helps with the safety aspect of the business, helping the company stay in compliance with local, federal, state, and OSHA regulations.
