Tangipahoa Parish deputies responding to a report of a car crash early Sunday in the Amite area found a vehicle in a ditch with a man inside who had been shot to death, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office said.

The identification of the man who had been shot was withheld pending the autopsy, the Sheriff's Office said in a news release Monday.

The crashed vehicle was found in a ditch on Bennett Road, the Sheriff's Office said. Deputies responded around 3:15 a.m. Sunday.

The news release had few other details.

"While detectives are continuing their investigative process, the TPSO is reaching out to the public for help with the case," it said.
