Tornado-like winds blew the roof off of a Nebraska penitentiary over the weekend, state officials said.

The roofs of two housing units at the Nebraska State Penitentiary suffered major damage due to the storm, the prison announced in a news release on Sunday, Aug. 10.

The storm took place on Saturday about 5:15 a.m., according to the release.

Video released by the prison shows large chunks of debris flying off the roof with what appears to be billows of black storm clouds above the penitentiary.

Prior to the storm, the National Weather Service had warned of possible high winds and pea-sized hail expected the day of the incident.
