BUFFALO, N.Y. — A new report by the New York State Comptroller's Office found alarming shortfalls in healthcare professionals in 16 New York counties, including at least three in Western New York.

The report found significant gaps in primary care, pediatric, OBGYN, dental, and mental health providers, with some counties lacking pediatricians or OBGYNs entirely. All rural counties were designated by the federal government as having shortages of mental health practitioners.

The counties included in the report are: Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chenango, Delaware, Essex, Franklin, Greene, Hamilton, Herkimer, Lewis, Schuyler, Steuben, Sullivan, Washington, Wyoming and Yates.
