Dolphins running back Alexander Mattison, one of the best performers in training camp, sustained a neck injury in Sunday’s 24-24 preseason opener at Chicago and has undergone season-ending surgery, according to a ESPN report . Mattison was taken by ambulance to a hospital Sunday in Chicago where he had the surgery, according to the report.

The Dolphins are hosting free agent running back Jamaal Williams for a workout today, according to a separate ESPN report .

Williams, 30, a 2017 fourth-round pick by Green Bay, spent the last two seasons with New Orleans. His best season was 2022 with Detroit when he rushed for 1,066 yards and a league-leading 17 touchdowns while averaging 4.1 yards per carry.
