GREENE COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) - Greene County Sheriff Wesley Holt will be stepping down as the county’s top law enforcement officer, and he plans to launch a campaign for county commission next year.

The sitting sheriff made the announcement Monday, saying he would not be seeking a third term after being elected in 2018 and again in 2022. He said he wanted to focus on spending time with his family.

“When I first took the oath of deputy sheriff in 1989, I vowed to uphold the law with fairness, compassion and integrity,” he wrote in a statement. “We have built upon a department that stands strong during challenges and stands upright during chaos.”
