PALMYRA, Wis. (WFRV) - Authorities in southern Wisconsin say a man was hit by lightning on Saturday before being sent to a hospital.

According to Palmyra Fire Rescue, on August 9, around 4:15 p.m., a report came in saying a man was struck by lightning and not breathing. Authorities were notified that the location was near the Emma Carlin Ice Age Trail Head, which leads into the Kettle Moraine State Forest.

With help from a DNR Warden, crews searched multiple trails before finding two hikers about one mile off the roadway. The release says a man was found semi-conscious with a pulse.

There were visible signs of a lightning strike on a nearby tree, officials said. It was reportedly determined that the lightning caused a ground current which left the two hikers unconscious.
