Sky watchers are in for another treat this summer as a rare 'planet parade' is set to grace UK skies – with six planets and the Moon all lining up in a spectacular cosmic display.

August's planetary alignment is the latest in a string of stunning night sky events in 2025, following a once-in-a-generation planet parade in February when all seven Solar System planets appeared above the horizon at the same time.

A planetary alignment is an astronomical term used to describe when planets gather closely on one side of the Sun at the same time.

Planets are technically always 'aligned' because they orbit the Solar System on the same plane, called the ecliptic. However, it’s rare to see four or five planets in close proximity – and even more rare for them to form a line-up in the sky.
