A thug subjected a family to months of hell by blackmailing and threatening them following a message on Snapchat.

Jordan Ellis first messaged one of the victims in July 2024. Using a false name, he added them on the social media app before asking him if he 'wanted to make some money', court heard.

Ellis pressured the victim into sending over his bank details in return for financial award. But instead, he changed the password to the victim's online banking account to gain full access to his money.

The victim then started to receive numerous abusive messages from Ellis who was demanding more money, Cheshire Police said.

The blackmail meant the victim asked his parents to send money to his account out of fear of repercussions.
