(WJET/WFXP) – The number of mosquitoes testing positive for West Nile virus continues to climb.

On Monday, August 11, the Erie County Department of Health announced that a mosquito sample collected in Millcreek Township on July 29 had tested positive for West Nile virus.

This finding marks the tenth mosquito to test positive in the county for 2025.

While anyone can get West Nile virus, those most susceptible are older adults and those with compromised immune systems.

The Department of Health wants to remind residents to eliminate standing water to reduce the number of mosquitoes.
