AOL has announced its dial-up service will be discontinued after more than 30 years in service.
The announcement to shutter the service was recently made in a notice posted on AOL’s website.
AOL’s dial-up service and its associated software, the AOL Dialer software and AOL Shield browser, “will be discontinued” on Sept. 30, according to the notice. The change “will not affect any other benefits” in existing AOL plans.
“AOL routinely evaluates its products and services and has decided to discontinue Dial-up Internet,” the company said in its notice to customers. “T
