Construction worker who died in fall from roof of Salem apartment complex identified

A 34-year-old construction worker who died in a fall from the roof of a Salem apartment complex on Friday has been identified as Carlos Ernesto Hernandez, the Essex County District Attorney’s Office said Monday.

Salem police responded to a report that a man had fallen from a rooftop at 64 Grove St. — which is listed online as a four-story apartment complex — shortly after 12:10 p.m., the police department said. Hernandez was declared dead at the scene.

The circumstances surrounding the construction worker’s death are still under investigation by the Salem Police Department, the Essex County District Attorney’s Office and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). No further information has been released.
