KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C. — A Kill Devil Hills man is dead following a late-night crash on NC 12 near Avon, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Troopers say the collision happened around 11:37 p.m. on Sunday. Investigators determined that 35-year-old Matthew Holcomb was driving a Honda CRV south on NC 12 when he crossed the center line and struck a northbound Nissan Maxima head-on.

Holcomb died at the scene. The driver of the Nissan was taken to The Outer Banks Hospital in Nags Head with non-life-threatening injuries.

There were no passengers in either vehicle at the time of the crash.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
