The 49ers’ preseason opener was all about the bottom of the team’s roster.

Coach Kyle Shanahan opted to play it safe with the team’s regulars after many of the veteran mainstays got in a lot of work in a joint practice with the Denver Broncos on Thursday in Santa Clara.

There were 33 players who did not suit up for the 49ers on Saturday night in San Franciso's 30-9 loss to the Broncos.

Only three projected Week 1 starters — left guard Ben Bartch, linebacker Dee Winters and safety Jason Pinnock — took the field for the preseason game at Levi’s Stadium.

NFL teams must trim their rosters to the regular-season limit of 53 by Aug. 26. There is still a lot for the 49ers to sort out, but here is one opinion of how things look right now:
