Texas Democratic lawmkers are "standing firm" in Illinois for the second week as Republicans are trying to reconvene the state Legislature to vote on redrawing congressional maps in their party's favor.
When asked by reporters if the lawmakers will return if the initiative to rdraw congressional maps were taken out of the special session's agenda Rep. Gene Wu said "we'll be back."
"We have said point blank time after time after time that if Governor Abbott says we will take care of the– take care of the people of the state of Texas first. If he makes that commitment today, we'll be back," the lawmaker said.
Seperatley, Sen. Dick Durbin who joined the Democratic lawmakers criticized President Donald Trump's decision to federalize the police force in Washington D.C.
"What the president did this morning was political theater. His idea in federalizing the police force of D.C. ignores the reality," Durbin said.
