COUSHATTA, La. -- A Red River Parish sheriff's deputy who was involved in a fatal car crash while responding to a house fire in February has been arrested.

Asia Pikes, 23, was arrested last week on a charge of negligent homicide in response to a grand jury indictment. She is free on a $25,000 bond and on paid administrative leave from the sheriff's office.

Louisiana State Police led the investigation. A Troop G spokesman said no additional information could be released. He referred inquiries to the Red River Parish District Attorney's Office, which took the case to the grand jury after the investigative file was turned over.

District Attorney Julie Jones did not return a call or text seeking comment.
