CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Lola Salter has witnessed more than a century of American history, and on Sunday evening, the Charlotte resident added another year to her remarkable journey as she celebrated her 107th birthday.

Surrounded by family, Salter reflected on a life that has spanned nearly 11 decades, offering wisdom gleaned from experiences few people ever accumulate.

"She's walking history literally," Erica, her daughter, said. "So, having someone who can recount over 100 years of life is amazing. She's truly a treasure, and she's a national treasure."
