CHICAGO, Ill. (WTVO) — Governor JB Pritzker visited a suburban school district today to advocate for children to get vaccinated before returning to class.

The visit coincides with National Immunization Awareness Month, emphasizing the importance of vaccinations for school-aged children.

The Illinois Department of Public Health stresses that back-to-school checkups are essential and can help students succeed academically, saying vaccinations play a crucial role in preventing illnesses that can lead to frequent absences or exclusion during outbreaks.

"Routine childhood vaccines are undeniably effective," said Governor JB Pritzker during his visit.

He highlighted the effectiveness of vaccines, noting that two doses of the measles vaccine are 97% effective at preventing the disease.
