Oregon officials expect that President Donald Trump’s budget reconciliation bill will blow a $1 billion hole in the current state budget and could likely have a bigger impact — perhaps almost $6 billion — in the 2027-29 budget.

The bulk of those federal cuts will undermine food assistance for low-income Oregonians as well as their medical insurance benefits, according to a preliminary analysis the Department of Administrative Services released Monday.

The federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program for Oregonians who need help affording food stands to deliver $1.7 billion less than previously planned through 2029, and the state’s Medicaid program is likely to see an almost $5 billion reduction in federal funds, according to the administrative services agency’s calculations.
