LIVINGSTON COUNTY, Mich. — The first human case of West Nile virus this year was detected in Michigan last week, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) announced.

The case was detected in a Livingston County resident and announced by MDHHS last Friday.

West Nile Virus is a mosquito-borne disease that can cause severe illness and even death. Symptoms will typically include high fever, confusion, muscle weakness and severe headache. More serious complications can include neurological illnesses, such as meningitis and encephalitis.
