HAMMOND — Defense lawyers for a former Gary police commander have requested and were granted a continuance in his trial for the third time, according to federal court records.

Attorneys for James Bond asked for a new trial date while they continue to review information, documents and other evidence as they prepare to take their case to trial in federal court, according to a motion filed July 18. U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge Abizer Zanzi granted their request to push Bond's trial from Aug. 25 to March 2.

Bond was indicted in September on charges of sexual exploitation of a minor, receipt of child pornography and possession of child pornography, according to a news release from the Department of Justice. The crimes were supposedly committed over a 10-day period in J
