EUGENE — Oregon’s secondary reportedly suffered a loss.

Freshman Trey McNutt , a five-star recruit ranked No. 2 among safeties in last year’s class, broke his right leg and is out indefinitely, according to On3 .

The news comes two days after Oregon coach Dan Lanning said the Ducks made it through their first scrimmage of fall camp injury-free.

Ranked No. 31 nationally in last year 247Sports Composite and one of Oregon’s three five-star signees, McNutt was expected to vie for immediate playing time this fall.

The 6-foot, 195-pound McNutt is one of eight scholarship safeties on UO’s roster, including multiple nickel backs.

His absence leaves the Ducks thinner at deep safety, where Purdue transfer Dillon Thieneman is expected to start. Peyton Woodyard and Kingston Lopa are competing
